Limited Electric SxS & UTVs for Kids 9-15 Years Old
There’s no real middle ground in the electric UTV market. There’s only 12V and 24V models for toddlers and small children and then the models jump up to powerful adult sizes. While adult electric UTVs are generally rated for children 16+, they are not appropriate for older children, preteens or younger teenagers.
This means that children from 8-15 have extremely limited electric SxS/UTV options.
We did manage to find one though, the Rampage UTV (see listing below) from Car Tots that claims to be suitable for ages 6 – small adult. But, what qualifies as a small adult? According to the seller description, ‘small adult’ would be mean less than 5′ tall which is a very small percentage of the US population. So, we put the age range at 6-10 which seems more realistic.
Unfortunately this is also true with ATVs as well, although Tesla did recently released the Cyberquad rated for kids 8-12 years old.
Hopefully as electric vehicles gain traction over time, more options will become available.

With a top speed of 4.9 mph, this 24V electric UTV has a bit more get up and go than 12V models. This vehicle also has about double the load capacity of 12V models.
However, it’s important to note that even though this has a larger load capacity and is a two seater, it can really only accommodate two children when they are very young. Once they get a bit older/larger, they’ll only be able to ride one at a time. (Of course, this is true for most of these vehicles)
Kids will enjoy all the fun features that make them feel like they’re in control and one of the ‘big kids’. A steering wheel, acceleration pedal, LED lights, real engine sounds, ‘radio’ and horn all provide a realistic driving experience. Also includes a seat belt and two locking doors for safety.
And although this vehicle doesn’t come preprogrammed with music like other SxS, it is Bluetooth enabled and ready for use with your own device.
In manual mode, kids can drive the vehicle using the steering wheel and pedal at speeds of up to 4.9mph. But parents also have the option to control both the steering and the speed using the included remote control.
This UTV has ASTM certification (American Society for Testing and Materials). This is a voluntary measure that companies can take to ensure products meet certain consumer safety standards. It’s not required, but it’s thoughtful when companies take this extra step.

What really sets this SxS apart is it’s maximum load rating and age recommendation. The maximum load rating is 175 lbs which is the highest among the vehicles we’ve found.
Car Tots, the manufacturer, has set the age recommendation at “6 to Small Adult” with a listed maximum rider height is 60″ (5 feet tall).
While the weight rating of 175 lbs could definitely accommodate a small adult, I’m putting the listing down as 6-10 years old because very few adults are under 5′ tall. Plus, ultimately this is a toy for children not adults.
This is also the fastest kids electric side by side in our lineup with a top speed of 10 mph. But, no worries, it also comes with disc brakes to keep riders safe. Plus, the vehicle comes with a parental remote control for tiny riders who aren’t quite ready to drive on their own.
15″ air filled rubber tires and 9″ of ground clearance is ideal for small rocks and hazards while the suspension system ensures smooth travel over uneven terrain. Riders have 3 forward speeds and 1 reverse speed.
Package also includes working doors, LED headlights, horn and Bluetooth connectivity.
Although the charge time is unstated, I would expect it to be in the 8-12 hour range, comparable to similar vehicles.

What kid wouldn’t love riding around in this boss looking UTV?
With two little ones or visiting friends or cousins, it’s great to be able to easily accommodate two. Of course, the downside is the fights over who drives.
For young children, parents can use the remote to easily control the vehicle from the comfort of a chair while the kids are kept safe with a seatbelt and double lock door. But, the kids won’t care (or probably even notice), they’ll still get the thrill of ‘driving’ on their own.
When they get a bit older, they’ll enjoy using the foot pedals and gear shift to truly drive on their own.
The dashboard has some fun functions that the kids will enjoy. They can play songs or stories. You can also use your own Bluetooth device, USB, MP3 Port or TF-CARD with the dashboard.
Speakers work well, but if you plan on using the Bluetooth, you may need to keep your device in the UTV – the reach isn’t the best. This isn’t a negative against the vehicle, this is pretty true with Bluetooth in general.
Vehicle requires some basic assembly such as attaching the roll bars. It’s not difficult, but if you’re buying this as a gift, keep it in mind.

This popular kids electric side by side is sure to please both parents and the littlest riders.
With a top speed of 3.7 mph, parents don’t have to worry about things getting out of hand. There’s also the option of operating the vehicle with a hand held remote control. In the manual setting, there is only one speed option while the remote control offers three speed setting from 2.5 mph – 3.7 mph.
And, to keep things extra safe, the wide seat comes with seatbelts.
Kids will love how realistic this truck looks. It has all the bells and whistles including a steering wheel, foot pedal, LED headlights, a horn and rear view mirrors. You’re going to be so jealous when you see this sweet ride and the kids are definitely going to be thrilled when they see this ‘grown up’ looking vehicle.
Although the Hot Wheel design is my personal favorite, other fun, kid friendly designs include: Disney Princess, Jurassic World, Red and Toy Story.
Designed for little riders, this vehicle only has two forward speeds: 2.5 mph and 5 mph. In reverse, it can only go 2.5 mph. And, for added safety, parents can limit the top speed to 2.5 mph until the child gets more comfortable with driving.
Unlike other kids electric side by sides, this one doesn’t come with a remote control. But, even without the speed limiter, this vehicle only has a top forward speed of 5 mph, so it’s good safe fun for even little riders.
Another nice safety feature is that once the foot comes off the pedal, power-lock brakes kick in to automatically stop the vehicle.
Although the battery life and charging times are not listed by the manufacturer, I would expect the run time to be approximately 45 minutes to 1 1/2 miles.
According to the owners manual, the vehicle must be charged for 18 hours prior to it’s first use, but it doesn’t state how long it takes to recharge after use. But, other similar Fisher Price vehicles take up to 14 hours to recharge, so I would expect this one to be similar.
Power Wheels is part of Fisher-Price which is a well known and respected brand.
